supporting emotional growth

The Thrive Approach helps us to support and meet the needs of every individual child

Helping emotional growth

At Twerton Infants, we recognise that there is a reason behind every behaviour. To support our childrens’ emotional and social wellbeing, we use the Thrive Approach.

Thrive focuses on understanding the needs behind a child’s behaviour and providing targeted support to help them flourish.

By building strong, positive relationships and creating a safe, nurturing environment, the Thrive Approach helps children develop resilience, emotional intelligence, and self-regulation skills.

This approach empowers both children and educators, fostering a sense of well-being and enabling children to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

THRIVE

What is Thrive?

The Thrive Approach is a therapeutic and developmental framework used in schools to support children’s emotional and social development.

It helps schools manage behaviour by focusing on the underlying emotional needs of students, rather than just addressing the surface-level actions.

The goal is to provide early intervention for students who may struggle with emotional regulation, and to create a nurturing environment where all children can thrive.

Preparing children for life

We use Thrive-Online to help us identify what aspects of the social and emotional curriculum we need to focus on for each group of pupils.

A focus on individual needs

We also use Thrive-Online to assess and develop action plans for individual children. This ensures the staff working with them understand their individual needs and are able to meet them as effectively as possible.

Identifying the right support

The Thrive Approach helps us give children the right support for positive mental health.  As a result, children become more self-assured and ready to engage with life and learning.

How does Thrive work?

First we screen the whole class using the Thrive screening tool. From there, the class teacher can create a plan for whole-class Personal Social and Health Education (PSHE) lessons, based on the needs of each individual class. The screening may highlight particular children who might benefit from an individual plan.

Individual plans are delivered in our Thrive Room by our trained Thrive Practitioner, Mrs Tidswell, as well as in class. Your child will take part in fun, sensory, play based activities supporting positive mental health. Some children may have Play Therapy with our fantastic Counsellor, Angie Sowton.

What are the benefits of Thrive?

Thrive helps to develop resilience in young people.
Thrive leads to better relationships between home and school.
Staff using the Thrive Approach feel more equipped to manage behaviour and better able to support more vulnerable children.
Thrive closes the gap for vulnerable children across a range of measures including attainment, behaviour, relationships, self-confidence, and attendance.
Thrive promotes productive learning for all children. There are fewer disruptions in class, reduced exclusions, and improved academic results for all children.
