Year One is a pivotal year where children transition from early learning into more structured education.

At this stage, students build essential literacy and numeracy skills while being introduced to a wider range of subjects such as science, art, and physical education.

Our Year One curriculum emphasizes play-based learning, creativity, and exploration, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable shift to formal learning.

With a focus on fostering curiosity and independence, we provide a supportive environment where children grow in confidence and develop a lifelong love of learning.

English

In Year One, we read a lot of stories and use actions to help us retell them, helping our children enjoy them and understand their characters and setting.

In non-fiction writing, we might work on anything from recipe and weather information pages, to a group project about autumn. We often use practical work to initiate our writing (for example, cooking a recipe and then writing up our own version).

Maths

In Year One, our children work on addition and subtraction, using games and activities to encourage them to think in patterns.

We use hands-on aids to learn about number bonds from 10 and 20.

At this stage, we start to work with money and recognising coins.
